Olivier Theyskens Has a New Gig

Today’s announcement may have quelled rumors of Theyskens as McQueen’s successor, but alas, all is not lost for the eternally youthful Belgian. After a long hiatus, he is finally making his return to design, although under less grandiose circumstances than previous incarnations. Apparently, the designer has been enlisted by Theory to design a capsule women’s collection, debuting later this year. An odd coupling to say the least, especially for Theyskens, who’s better known for fragile visions and trailing bustles than office attire. The fairy tale goes the way of casual Fridays? We shudder at the thought. But perhaps, after his truncated stints at Rochas and Ricci, Theyskens is giving the needs of earthbound customers a thought. Or, continuing in the fairy-tale theme, maybe he fell victim to some evil witch’s plot dooming him to a life of servitude, like Rapunzel, spinning khakis in a tower.
