Twenty years since Gianni Versace’s death, Lady Gaga will reportedly play a bereaved Donatella in the third season of American Crime Story.
The 10-episode series will focus on the designer’s murder in front of his Miami Beach home, Casa Casuarina, by Andrew Cunanan in 1997, sending shockwaves throughout the fashion world and beyond.
It wouldn’t be the first time the pop star has assumed the identity, having starred in the label’s spring 2014 campaign with long blonde locks and a skintight bandage dress. Just prior, Lady Gaga released her Artpop album with a song called Donatella, immortalizing the celebrity friendship.
The show’s executive producer, Ryan Murphy, apparently got the idea after casting Lady Gaga in two seasons of American Horror Story, in which she played a vampire countess, winning a Golden Globe.
