One in a Milliner
“I draw. I fill notebooks with sketches of people, objects, a cartoon, my lunch, a tree outside — not always hats,” the great British milliner Stephen Jones once told Hint. “I do them very fast. I tend to think if they’ve taken me more than a minute, then I’ve failed.”
An assortment of these sketches, as well as umpteen photos — many of them from Jones’ own archives — and other ephemera, fill out the 208 pages of a new book. In Souvenirs(Rizzoli, $135), with a foreword by Grace Coddington, we see his magical creations atop the heads of royals and pop queens alike, from Princess Diana to Boy George, or bobbing down the runways of Comme des Garçons, Marc Jacobs, and Dior.
