Falling Apart: Craig Green Spring 2017

In typically cryptic fashion, London designer Craig Green sent out a men’s collection rife with strong yet unexplained symbolism, leaving the viewer to wade through and decode the messages.

Most signs seemed to point to a Himalayan inspiration, with Sherpa-like bundling of the body in bright Tibetan prayer flags. Then there were Oriental rugs and dusty mats that all but crumbled and fell apart as the models galumphed down the runway, perhaps in recognition of the Nepalese earthquake.

Other pieces were similarly deconstructed, mainly trenches and various items of a Western man’s wardrobe, possibly suggesting the challenges faced by the European Union. Any way you look at it, heaps of work are required of this collection, both in the understanding and wearing of it.
