With Prada, Raf Simons, Nike, and Cos all having a presence at Milan’s Salone del Mobile 2016, one might surmise that the marriage between fashion and design has again been consummated. Indeed, the retailers’ presence at the week-long event, which drew over 41,000 visitors from around the world, is an example of how far-reaching the design world has become.

Like every year, Salone was an amalgamation of brunches, lunches, talks, walks, apéritifs, and dinners. Long days culminated in late nights at the iconic Bar Basso — a Salone del Mobile mainstay. Here, negronis were consumed en masse, and the entire design populace spilled into the tree-lined streets to recap the day’s findings, solidify collaborations, and, in the case of yours truly, bid arrivederci to a superior piece of design, my iPhone.

In between all this socializing was the main attraction: the actual fair and satellite installations. This year — Salone’s biggest to date — there was no shortage of standout works and exhibitions, many of which meet where the worlds of fashion and design intersect. In no definitive order, here’s what we saw…

Nike “The Nature of Motion” Installation
For the sportswear brand’s first Milan show, ten designers were asked to interpret the idea of “The Nature of Motion.” British-born Sebastian Wrong utilized Nike’s Flyknit technology to craft a communal-style seating arrangement conceived with sports teams in mind.

The Danish brand Hay has dominated the design world for several years with their affordable, always desirable objects, accessories, and furniture. All of this was on view in an impressive showroom with a clubhouse vibe.

Raf Simons x Kvadrat x Artek
Leave it to the inimitable Simons to make upholstery sexy. His third collaboration with German textile manufacturer Kvadrat — and Simons’ first foray into furniture — was inspired by music, art, and modernism. At Artek, that translated into bold hues and big stripes and utilized as the upholstery of choice for Ilmari Tapiovaara’s Kiki Collection (1960).

Fondazione Prada
Miuccia Prada’s impressive permanent outpost showcases her incredible contemporary art collection (a second foundation is in Venice), opened last May. The building’s stunning architecture, designed by Rem Koolhaas, and a bar conceived by filmmaker Wes Anderson, is worth the visit alone.

In an opulent Italian rotunda, revered English designer — most known for pioneering a love affair with brass fixtures — reimagined kitchens and dining halls based on the elements (earth, fire, water, air) in a popup collaboration with Caesarstone.

Gufram at 10 Corso Como
Carla Sozzani’s 10 Corso Como is a labyrinth of the world’s most covetable apparel, art and design objects, and beautiful people — who dine nonchalantly in the venue’s open-air courtyard. Overlooking it all is Galleria Carla Sozzani with an exhibition celebrating 50 years of the radical Italian artist and architecture collective Gufram, and a reinterpretation of objects they produced over time by the likes of Marcel Wanders, Toilet Paper, and Studio Job.
