The Arresting Art of Keith Haring

While exploring the internet underground, we uncovered this fantastic 80s-era video of Keith Haring illegally chalking up subway walls with his inimitable pictographs. The arresting cop was apparently oblivious that the artist also happened to be the subject of a solo show at a Soho gallery (can you spot Francesco Clemente in the crowd?).

While some of the video, which aired on CBS Evening News in 1982, comes off a bit affected or staged, it nonetheless offers a fascinating snapshot of New York’s art scene of the time and provides a rare interview with the artist himself.
