Joint Venture: Alexander Wang Fall 2016

Inside St. Bartholomew’s Church, an operational place of worship, Alexander Wang took a big figurative toke and sent out a collection packed with weed references and 90s bad-girl tropes. It was an unapologetic embrace of poor taste, perhaps in delayed response to his decorum-required Balenciaga stint.

The unmistakable five-pointed leaf was everywhere, on mohair coats and wrap skirts, on mini-bucket bags, as leather cutouts. Slogans, too, were abundant — Strict, Tender, Girls — in reference to Barbara Kruger’s prop art by way of skate brand Supreme. Similarly, the Chanel tweed suit was referenced by way of Clueless.
