The Pioneering Print Artists of Brazil

Last month at Inspiramais, Brazil’s leading fashion trade fair, we discovered the unique prints of eight of the country’s preeminent designers for fall 2017. Working in themes ranging from Provocative and Disproportion to Ancestral and Primitive Technological, they came together in the +Prints project to share ideas and better compete on an international stage.

Lucius Vilar, an Inspiramais consultant (and creative director of LUV Studio), advised the brands in developing their prints. “It is very interesting to see the way they decode each concept [of Inspiramais],” he said. “We have to remember that the global textile industry is undergoing transformations and requires Brazilian designers to innovate and pioneer. Prints are an area that allows them to provoke new perceptions in the public. Innovation is a peculiar feature that cannot be rapidly or easily reproduced by competitors.”
