The Art of the Drape

UK-based Swedish artist Eva Stenram is known for her alluring yet discomfiting manipulations of vintage pin-up photographs, where body parts — often wearing shoes and hose — lay akimbo amid midcentury furniture and mysterious drapery.

By altering negatives, she subtly pulls the viewer into her world of mesmerizing illusion. “Photography is always this oscillation between presence and absence,” she says. “I am interested in the viewer somehow completing the work imaginatively.”
