Lineisy Montero
In one’s debut modeling gig, one wants to stand out. Enter Lineisy Montero, who stole the Prada show — a Milan exclusive — with, among her many other charming traits, a baby afro.
The 19-year-old Dominican isn’t the first to sport the ‘do, but for Prada, whose influence on the fashion world is like none other, it’s a coup. The brand inexplicably went 15 years without a single black model on its runway, not since Naomi Campbell in 1997. It took Jourdan Dunn in 2008 to break the spell, and from then on it’s been relaxed, straight black hair.
Following Prada, Lineisy walked for a number of shows in Paris, including Céline, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and of course Miu Miu. And she’ll go on to do all kinds of amazing things. But she’ll always be remembered for her natural hair at Prada in 2015. She was, in effect, a doppelganger of her idol, Lupita Nyong’o, who by the way wore Prada to the Oscars. The house seems to be making up for lost ground.
