Stuff of Fiction: JW Anderson Fall 2014

For his JW Anderson label, Jonathan Anderson delivered a fall collection that could fairly be compared to Game of Thrones, in that it was both medieval and otherworldly. These were long, intricate sculptural dresses in unfinished distressed leather and shiny nylon-like fabrics. There were few seams to speak of; rather, fabrics were connected by way of folding, tucking, or gathering — suggesting origami and non-Western techniques. The designer, who’s recently been tapped by LVMH to head up the Spanish house of Loewe, doesn’t ‘do’ trends at his eponymous London label, which lands him far outside the mainstream. Thankfully.
