There are certain signatures the Maria Cornejo customer has come to expect, key among them the slouchy shift. This season the designer did not disappoint with a cheery eye-catcher in egg-yolk yellow. The rest of the collection was a bit of a departure for the designer. Yes, her artful custom prints popped up (in small doses), as did cool-girl separates. But the mood for fall was a little more plush, with fabrics that begged to be touched, leaving her faithful wanting more.

The collection was inspired by an imagined trip through the Americas, and the clothing conjured the snowy mountains of Cornejo’s native Chile. They were minimalist yet luxe, with track pants and oversized sweaters in creamy, snowy shades. At other turns, the collection was a little more buttoned-up than usual, with sleek pieces in black and white calling to mind uniforms or religious garments.

Despite the sprinkling of furs and cozy knits, many of the looks for winter were cropped above the ankle. Because, while Cornejo’s woman is quirky, she most certainly has a driver.
