Why aren’t people making a bigger deal over the mind-blowing fact that Heathers is headed to Broadway? The original teenage dark comedy, with which all others are compared, as a musical? Take a moment to imagine Heather Chandler singing “Fuck me gently with a chainsaw.”

Ok, so it’s off-Broadway (New World Stages), and a cast hasn’t been announced yet (it can’t be easy to fill the shoes of Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty), so maybe it’s a little early to get excited. But apparently it’s been in development ever since that questionable Bravo remake that never came to pass. The new musical is in the very capable hands of composer Laurence O’Keefe (Tony nominee for Legally Blonde), writer Kevin Murphy, and director Andy Fickman.

So start practicing your catchphrases because, from March 17 through September 7, 2014, there will be damage.
