Money Where Your Mouse Is: Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga
Feverish hoarding of Balenciaga began the moment Nicolas Ghesquière announced his exit from the house earlier this year. The hardcore hunt for the museum-worthy works of art accelerated with the news he’d been tapped to succeed Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton. Now comes an online sale for the febrile collector in us all.
On Friday, November 29, at 11 am (French time), the concept site RESEE.com will make available 40 or so pieces of Ghesquière-era Balenciaga — including some from his first collection, Les Dix (spring 2002) — as well as Edition, archival remakes of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s greatest couture hits.
“These pieces are sourced from a tight network of sellers both in Europe and America,” say RESEE’s founders Sofia Bernardin and Sabrina Marshall (formerly of Vogue and Self Service, respectively), who hint that another stash of Ghesquière for Balenciaga may be unveiled at a future time. “We are both such huge admirers of his work and we wanted to pay homage to these strong, defining pieces from his time at Balenciaga.”
