To Russia with Love: Comme des Garçons Supports Designer Gosha Rubchinskiy

Comme des Garçons is at it again, supporting young talent in far-flung parts of the world. On October 31, the label’s Black Shop in Berlin will present the photographs of Russian artist and designer Gosha Rubchinskiy, along with his fall 2013 men’s collection. That’s not all. Comme has produced and distributed the collection, the second time it has done so.

It makes sense; Gosha’s work is very Comme. He makes street-ready basics that oscillate between hard and soft, guarded and vulnerable. Gosha, who says he’s inspired by the “romance of youth,” makes clothes for those born after 1991, the year the Soviet era ended. “Teenagers are interesting for me because they have an acute perception for everything,” he explains. “My friends are the most interesting thing in Russia for me now.”

Comme des Garçons Black, Linienstrasse 115, 10115, Berlin. Exhibit and sale launch October 31, 6 – 9 pm, and continue through January 2014.
