Jil Sander Exits Her Label — Again

What a bizarre turn of events. Word came today that Jil Sander would, again, leave her namesake label, making her a one-woman merry-go-round. This time it’s personal reasons.

In February 2012 we broke the news that, in a move that ousted Raf Simons, she was returning to her label for a second time. The come-and-go pattern started in 2000, a year after Prada Group bought a majority stake in the label. She cited strategic differences as the reason for her departure. She returned in 2003, only to leave again a year and a half later.

Jil Sander CEO Alessandro Cremonesi said, “On behalf of the group I want to thank Jil Sander for her remarkable contribution to the brand over this period. Her outstanding design and creative leadership have been crucial in reinforcing the brand and positioning it to foster further prosperous growth.”

Her last collection for the house was spring 2014, which was met with a mostly positive response. The upcoming fall 2014 collection will be designed by the brand’s in-house team.
