Willem Dafoe Is Andy Warhol in the YSL Biopic
Willem Dafoe has played Jesus (The Last Temptation of Christ), T. S. Eliot (Tom & Viv), and a sexual deviant in two Lars von Trier films (Antichrist, Nymphomaniac). Now, according to the French film site allocine.fr, the veteran thespian has been cast in what may be his most challenging role to date, that of Andy Warhol in the upcoming YSL biopic Saint Laurent.
Predating the Hedi Slimane-helmed house of today, also called Saint Laurent, the film stars French model-actor Gaspard Ulliel in the title role (as we reported), as well as Léa Seydoux as Loulou de la Falaise and Louis Garrel as boy-toy Jacques de Bascher. It covers the years 1965-76, during which Saint Laurent and Warhol were close contemporaries who swirled in many of the same circles. In fact the designer sat for one of the artist’s pop portraits.
With a May 2014 release date, the biopic may premiere at Cannes.
