The Bold and the Beautiful: Céline Spring 2014

If Alexander Wang heralded the return of logomania, Celine’s Phoebe Philo gave it artistic flourish, most notably in bold prints composed of the letter C in broad brushstrokes reminiscent of Picasso’s signature. Other nods to the 80s included exaggerated lapels, large metal hardware, and a Nagel-like color palette. Bags were strapless and gripped by the models, while shoes were elevated on metal platforms or strappy versions of Teva sandals. This was Philo asserting a high-minded sexlessness once again, tempered with a quiet boldness and extreme comfort.
