After his dismal debut last year, Kanye West is reportedly seeking fashion salvation from an unlikely source, Christophe Decarnin.
Balmain’s former creative director, Decarnin exited the house in 2011 amid mental-health concerns at the start of a wave of incidences that called into question the growing pressures placed on head designers. Based on this alone, it’s unclear why, if confirmed, he’d go near one of the biggest egos in music or fashion.
Recently Kanye West regaled a BBC reporter with stories of grandeur. He leveled one backhanded compliment at Hedi Slimane, saying, “When I see Hedi Slimane, and it’s all like, OK, this is my take on the world. Yeah, he’s got some nice $5,000 jeans in there. It’s some nice ones here and there, some good shit here and there. But we culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We the rock stars…and I’m the biggest of all of them.”
Earlier, West hinted his return to fashion might occur on the New York runways, but mercifully it did not, for whatever reason.
