Kanye West Reignites a Feud with Hedi Slimane in Time for the Paris Shows

Need another reason to revile Kanye West? Yesterday he gave a lengthy interview to BBC Radio 1, in which he seemed much less interested in plugging his new Yeezus album than dissing fashion designers.

Mostly he took aim at Hedi Slimane, in retaliation for the designer telling West that if he wanted to see his Saint Laurent collection, it should be the only show he attends that season. While it isn’t clear what’s so insulting about that, it upset West enough to immediately write both I Am a God and Black Skinhead. A while ago he hinted at this sore spot in a W magazine story, but only named the offending designer to BBC.

He went on to say, “When I see Hedi Slimane, and it’s all like, OK, this is my take on the world. Yeah, he’s got some nice $5,000 jeans in there. It’s some nice ones here and there, some good shit here and there. But we culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We the rock stars…and I’m the biggest of all of them.”

He also had some choice words for Fendi, stemming from his foray into fashion design some years ago. “Me and Virgil [Abloh] are in Rome, giving designs to Fendi, over and over, and getting our designs knocked down,” he said. “[We] brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said no. How many motherfuckers you done seen with a leather jogging pant?”

Lady Gaga didn’t go unscathed either. “Look at Gaga. She’s the creative director of Polaroid. I like some of the Gaga songs. What the fuck does she know about cameras?” Of course this rule doesn’t apply to himself in regards to fashion. “I’ve dedicated the last ten years of my life to this. I’ve spent 80 percent of my time working on this, and 20 percent working on music. Why do you think the song Niggas in Paris was called Niggas in Paris? Because niggas was in Paris! That’s why we were in Paris. I put in the 10,000 hours.”
