Creamsicle Meets Equinox: Rag & Bone Spring 2014
For spring 2014, the Rag & Bone boys packed the house with a mile-long silver runway that served as a potent symbol of the label’s place among New York’s leading contemporary brands. The show hit on what are sure to be the season’s key notes — spaghetti straps, perforation, a 21st-century spin on 1990s minimalism — blended with some house signatures: borrowed-from-the-boys tailoring and slouchy styling.
A rainbow of Creamsicle colors, tinged with heavier moments in black and white, skewed sporty, shiny, sexy, and sheer. Deep-V (to the navel) tennis sweaters and dropped-waist skirts gave way to whisper-thin, unadorned dresses with contrasting angel-hair straps — exactly the types of clothing women dream of during heat waves, when it’s too hot to slip on even a bra (a garment such revealing pieces would hardly allow ).
For day, revealing crop-tops paired with structured jackets and light-as-air blazers seemed perfect for Miami movers and shakers and other businesswomen with Equinox memberships. And of course, the accessories were standout. The crowd buzzed about the croc totes with long messenger straps and structured, ladylike handbags. And though the aggressive lace-up platforms in lilac and mirrored finishes weighed down some of the lighter looks, expect to see them on countless blogs come spring.
