Something Different: Slovz

Move over Uggs and Crocs. There’s a new strange, fad-ready shoe with a funny name in town. Slovz! Inspired by the traditional valenki — the boots worn by indigenous Siberians for centuries — and adapted to Western tastes, Slovz are handmade in Russia from one seamless piece of sheep’s wool. The resulting snow-tightness and chunky shape keep feet warm and dry even during the most heinous of blizzards.

Slovz come in off-white, brown or black, plus a new ombre, and they’re available with a rubber sole or with a galoshe, a removable rubber overshoe.

Now we just need some enterprising Russians to update the ushanka, those funny fur hats with ear flaps.
