Hooked: Noritaka Tatehana’s Daughters

Ever since Lady Gaga slid into his heelless shoe art and appeared on Japanese TV some years ago, it’s been a rocket ride for Noritaka Tatehana.

The latest unexpected development from the bashful cobbler is a collaboration with the high-concept “shoe director” Yoichiro Kitadate (Nike, Reebok) on a limited capsule of wedge sneakers for her and baseball sneakers for him. Called Daughters (both the women’s and men’s versions — go figure), and featuring a traditional Japanese leather-dying technique using organic indigo, the shoes have inherited their genes from their two dads. A miracle of modern science!

Currently only available in Japan at T6M and Isetan Shinjuku, but inquiries are welcome on the Daughters website.
