Not that he nor anyone around him has done anything wrong, François Pinault will soon stage an unusual art exhibition culled from his personal collection, among the largest in the world, thought to contain over two thousands works. And wouldn’t you know it, he’s centered the show around the venue itself, a jail.

Apparently, even the CEO of the holding company Kering (formerly PPR) — which owns Gucci, Saint Laurent, Christie’s — loves a theme. But this isn’t just any jail; it’s La Conciergerie, which, originally a royal palace, served as a prison during the French Revolution. Far from a scene in Les Mis, 50 works from Pinault’s private reserve — including Damien Hirst, Bill Viola, Boris Mikhailov, Mona Hatoum, Chen Zhen — will feature in the show, exploring themes of confinement: criminal, political, mental, or emotional.
