Something Different: Maurizio Cattelan for MSGM
It looks as if Maurizio Cattelan is making good on his promise to leave the art world behind. In addition to publishing the image-heavy art rag Toilet Paper with the photographer and his friend Pierpaolo Ferrari, the satirist has produced a series of all-over sweatshirts with the kitschy Italian street label MSGM.
The brand’s founder, Massimo Giorgetti, sampled from the magazine’s archives to come up with the ten seemingly random images on cotton and velvet crew-necks in acid colors and sweet pastels. Mostly they look like subversive indictments of advertisements and consumer culture — exactly what you’d expect from a collaboration with Cattelan.
