A Store Is Born: Saint Laurent Soho
Here’s an officially sanctioned interior shot of Saint Laurent’s new downtown space, the latest in Hedi Slimane’s “realigned visual identity.” No doubt you have an excellent imagination, so picture the large, 4000-square-foot space filled with the creative director’s pre-fall collection — because it will be soon, like, this week — eventually carrying the complete women’s and men’s collections, including accessories.
The interior design — black and white marble, poured concrete, and ample use of glass and mirror — follows similar store revamps in Paris, Berlin, Shanghai, and soon uptown and Beverly Hills, yet remains respectful of the architectural heritage of the historic cast-iron Soho district. Further pointing to a deep respect for artistic integrity, furnishings will consist of mostly French modern masters, including Jean Prouvé, Marcel Breuer, Jules Leleu, and Pierre-Emile Legrain.
