James Dean to Get the Biopic Treatment
Anton Corbijn, the Dutch filmmaker behind Control, the wrenching biopic of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, has another tragic trailblazer in his sights. Called Life, the film follows a young James Dean on a trip from L.A. to New York and on to Indiana — just before his breakthrough in East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause, both in 1955 — as seen through the eyes of photographer Dennis Stock, whom Life magazine had assigned to shoot the up-and-coming actor along the way. It was that trip that produced some of the most enduring images of the icon. Scripted by Luke Davies (Candy) and produced by Iain Canning (The King’s Speech, Shame), Life will begin shooting in early 2014.
