You Must Be Kidding

If the French graffiti artist (a term we use loosely) Kidult wants to be accepted by the fashion crowd, he has a funny way of showing it. This is the person who vandalized boutiques from Paris to Brussels to New York — among them Maison Martin Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Kenzo — with spray-painted scrawls neither legible nor artful.

Yet here he is collaborating with the T-shirt label What About Yves, which, judging from the slogan tees on their website, also spends a lot of time slagging off fashion designers, seemingly very sure in the belief they’re making clever send-ups of the cult of commodity. Together they’d very much like it if you bought some of the items in question, made in a “very limited-edition Memorial Day release.” Hmmm, Memorial Day. We’ll go back another three weeks and say, in the words of every mother who ever lived, “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”
