Balenciaga’s New Campaign Builds Momentum

Designers typically flaunt their shiny new wares in an ad campaign. Not Alexander Wang, who ramps up the anticipation for his debut fall collection in his first ad for Balenciaga. Set to appear in June issues, the single image of Kristen McMenamy, shot by Steven Klein, facing away from the camera—the sacrilege!—feels more like build-up than crescendo. It’s as if she awaits delivery of the collection to the soon-to-launch Soho store along with the rest of us. So meta!
