Carine Roitfeld Eyes Cannes
The official selection of the Cannes Film Festival next month has yet to be announced, but word has come of at least one fashionable entry, the Carine Roitfeld documentary. (The Great Gatsby opens Cannes, but more on that later.) It was almost a year ago that we first heard about Mademoiselle C, a title that may lead you to think it’s about the Mademoiselle C, Coco Chanel. But no.
The director, Fabien Constant, says that the finished product will be like The September Issue, which the doc’s production company also happened to work on. It follows the creation of Roitfeld’s first issue of her magazine CR Fashion Book, which was inspired by her daughter’s first pregnancy. “[The film] coincided with Julia’s pregnancy and suddenly it gave her a new perspective on things. The idea of birth, renewal in CR is linked to what she was experiencing,” Constant told Fashionista.com. “It is about her arrival in New York, which was a brand new start for her.”
As reported, plenty of her famous fashion friends make appearances, including Karl Lagerfeld, Riccardo Tisci, Albert Elbaz, Jean Paul Gaultier, Cate Blanchett, Diane Von Furstenberg, Mario Sorrenti, Natalia Vodianova, Alexander Wang, Donatella Versace, Mario Testino, and Tom Ford. Also making cameos in the documentary are fashion-orbiting celebs from Cate Blanchett to Kanye West, who apparently spends his screen time chatting up models.
Cannes Festival non-goers can catch Mademoiselle C in September, when it arrives in select theaters.
