Nicola Formichetti to Diesel

Less than two days after officially announcing his departure from Mugler, the hyper-kinetic Nicola Formichetti is already on to his next project.

The Zelig of a stylist has been appointed artistic director of Diesel, where he will be in charge of product, communication, and interior design, starting with fall/winter 2013. He will coordinate the existing creative team, as well as bring in new talent. An online platform will launch in less than 27 days at Dieselreboot.tumblr.com, where the countdown has begun.

To say Nicola Formichetti and Renzo Rosso, Diesel’s highly visible owner, are honeymooning is an understatement. In an over-the-top press release, Rosso declares, “I finally met somebody as crazy as I am.”

As for Nicola Formichetti, he quips, “When Renzo asked me, I remembered that Diesel and I are all about the same things. No rules! It’s about being empowered. It’s about being free. It’s a positive revolution. We’re going to REBOOT! Hit refresh.”

Regarding Sébastien Peigné and Romain Kremer, the women’s and men’s designers under Formichetti at Mugler, a spokesperson for the house reached in Paris had no further comment.
