Rihanna Launches Her Diamonds World Tour in Givenchy

Would you like a blow-by-blow account of the Givenchy costumes Rihanna wore—all custom designed by Riccardo Tisci—to launch her Diamonds world tour in Buffalo Friday night? Of course you would…

She started with a black floor-length ruffled silk-crepe cape with 3D collar embroidery, inspired by the house’s trademark organza cape, and black leather thigh-high boots with lacing details. This was completed by a shark tooth gold necklace with an engraved military plaque in the back (which reads RIRI), couture goggles with gold metal hardware elements and white crystal stud earrings.

Rihanna then revealed a three-piece printed and embroidered outfit, which consisted of a black and white leather bra with gold-star embroidery and gold buckles, paired with silk satin mini-shorts in a matching print, and worn with a masculine oversized black printed and hand-embroidered hooded parka.

“I enjoyed making these looks,” said Riccardo Tisci. “Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy and pure beauty. Rihanna has what every girl aspires to have. She is the face of her generation.”

None of this should be confused with the Raf Simons 1995 oversized black T-shirt she also wore onstage.
