If you think you’ve seen a dress before, as we’re all wont to say, there’s a good chance you actually have. A new site, Part Nouveau, highlights a few such “influences”—whether credited or not—on fashion design and photography, arranged in brutal side-by-side format. Its founder, Lilah Ramzi, is currently earning her Masters in Costume Studies at NYU, a fancy way of saying she can’t be fooled.

Part Nouveau aims to publish daily, which tells you just how much influencing goes on. We learned, for example, that Marjan Pejoski’s swan dress that Bjork wore to the 2001 Oscars was originally—whatever that means anymore—created circa 1880 by an unknown designer, as a scarf and muff combo now housed at the Costume Institute at the Met. Something to think about as you laud and lament the red-carpet offerings at the Academy Awards this Sunday.
