Stephen Jones Adds a Feather In His Cap
“A Magazine Curated By”—the biannual Belgian publication able to recruit the likes of Maison Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Haider Ackermann, Kris Van Assche, Riccardo Tisci, Proenza Schouler, Giambattista Valli, Rodarte, and Jun Takahashi to guest-edit entire issues—has now recruited Stephen Jones.
Stephen Jones has dedicated the issue to staunch supporter and friend Anna Piaggi, delving into the worlds of illustration and design with archival and newly commissioned pieces from legions of lifelong collaborators, from artists and designers to students and teachers. Works include a centerfold of Dita Von Teese by David Downton, Nick Knight’s floral christmas cards, the industrial designs of Raf Simons, and the musings of fashion curators Olivier Saillard and Valerie Steele.
In short, the issue promises a look “through the page and down the rabbit hole with the mad hatter—in an elegant whirl of color, line, creativity and humour.” If we know Stephen Jones, and we do, it will be exactly that. Asked to recall the most exhilarating moment during the making of the issue, he came back with several: “Personal faxes and letters from Marc [Jacobs] and Rei [Kawakubo], showing the to and fro of the design process, Zaha [Hadid]’s doodles, one of John [Galliano]’s earliest drawings, Barbara Hulanicki sketching Dior—who would ever imagine that happening? Oh and top international museum curators picking one ultimate outfit from their respective cities, and why!”
The issue will launch March 4, 2013, at BOOKMARC in Paris, then available in stores worldwide.
