United in Anger: A History of ACT UP is a new film by director Jim Hubbard and Sarah Schulman for Day With(out) Art/World AIDS Day. It’s the first feature-length documentary about ACT UP, the pioneering band of activists who staged in-your-face demonstrations in the 80s and 90s to “change the world and save each other’s lives” in the face of inaction by U.S. government. America isn’t the only country with Dancing With the Stars. Belgium has its own version (called Sterren Op De Dansvloer), where model and Designers Against AIDS ambassador Hannelore Knuts and dance partner Marcus Van Teijlingen, while they didn’t win, saved their last dance in honor of World AIDS Day. Martin Margiela originally launched his AIDS T-shirt back in 1994, when very little was known about the HIV virus and hysteria ran rampant. Around the tee’s V-neck collar, it read: “There is more action to be done to fight AIDS than to wear this T-shirt but it’s a good start.” Since the designer’s departure from the label, Maison Martin Margiela has kept the tradition alive. Except now the text is written in a different language each year (in addition to English), reflecting the global reach of the virus. This year it’s been translated into Chinese. As usual, a percentage of sales will be donated to AIDES, a French organization dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS and caring for those who are infected.

On Saturday, December 1 MAC Cosmetics will match all VIVA GLAM online sales—one of which can buy five meals for a person living with AIDS—for a double donation. To date, the MAC AIDS Fund has raised more than $270 million dollars, helping victims of HIV/AIDS around the world.
