JW Anderson In at Versus

Jonathan William (aka JW) Anderson, the Irish-born, London-based designer named this morning as the first of Versus’s rotating collaborators since the departure of Christopher Kane, is refreshingly provocative about the direction he wants to take the capsule collection. Drawing attention to an image from a Bruce Weber-lensed Versace campaign from 1996, featuring Stella Tennant and Iván de Pineda, he says, “This iconic image says it all. That’s how I see Versus. It’s all about the relationship between a boy and a girl, a girl and a girl, a boy and a boy. Purity.” Sounds hot.

This seems to be JW Anderson’s breakout moment. Already deemed London’s Next Big Thing for his punk-inspired men’s and women’s collections shown at London Fashion Week (to be exact, he began in men’s, then included women’s), earlier this week he won the Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear at the British Fashion Awards.

The capsule is scheduled for a New York launch in the spring, marking the beginning of a digital-focused, season-less, and apparently homo-happy new direction for Versus.
