Surprise! Still No Designer at Schiaparelli

Here’s a reality check for anyone expecting the Schiaparelli label to relaunch in January, as previously announced. WWD quotes a Schiaparelli spokesperson as saying the first collection would be shown in “June or July” at the earliest, which obviously means it wouldn’t be in stores until the following season.

Apparently Schiaparelli’s owner, the Italian tycoon Diego Della Valle (also CEO of Tod’s), who bought the Schiaparelli archives and name in 2006, hasn’t decided on a designer, although presumably he’s met with plenty. But it’s understandable, considering the larger-than-life persona of founder Elsa Schiaparelli, her wild ideas appropriated from Surrealism, and the heightened interest in the project since the Costume Institute’s Impossible Conversations exhibit at the Met earlier this year.

By the way, does anyone still think it’s going to be John Galliano? Whatever people’s opinions of him or his outbursts are, few can deny the shoe would fit.
