Opening Ceremony Turns 10

Sure, they’ve revolutionized retail with their eclectic mix of merch and uncanny ability to predict the next cool thing, but when it comes down to it, the Opening Ceremony legacy may be their superhuman ability to throw a party. And last night was one for the history books. This was an epic rager as the tribes of New York converged—well, jammed—into Webster Hall to celebrate ten years.

Reached at the bar, Humberto Leon put it succinctly: “We just wanted to celebrate, and get everyone under one roof!” Mission accomplished. Chloe Sevigny, Alexander Wang, Erin Wasson, MIA, Anna Dello Russo, Spike Jonze, Jeremy Scott were just a handful of those who showed up to pay their respects. They were treated to a multi-level extravaganza, with a basement of hardcore hip-hop remixes, a Misshapes revival on the main stage, and Club 1992 upstairs—and raining confetti.

The rumor mill went into overdrive over a surprise performer, maybe even Madonna herself, a feat unthinkable to anyone except these kids. When it came time, it was Lil’ Kim who took the stage, giving props to OC with a rundown of greatest hits that brought house down.
