Glenn O’Brien Was a Wild Thing at Chez Andre

The fashion crowd packed into the steamy basement of the Standard East Village last night as Andre Saraiva and Andre Balazs launched their latest venture, known simply as Chez Andre. A tight space, but just the hideaway we’ll all be flocking to for seasons to come.

An oversized gaping mouth, a la Rolling Stones, made for a fitting backdrop to the night’s live-band karaoke. Peter and Harry Brant took to the stage and reminded everyone why they’re in the running to be New York’s premiere teen socialites. Other crooners included Angela Lindvall and Theophilus London, while perennial nightowls Mario Sorrenti, Waris Ahluwalia, and Olivier Zahm looked on. But it was Glenn O’Brien who stole the show, belting out one of the best renditions of The Troggs’ Wild Thing we’ve ever heard, even following it up with Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life.
