Bergdorf Goodman, the iconic New York retailer, is celebrating its 111th birthday. And for a lady of a certain age, she’s looking mighty fine. Of course it helps to have an oversized—an understatement!—lavender ribbon wrapped around the entire Fifth Avenue building. 

The birthday spectacular warrants a year-long celebration, encompassing an anniversary collaboration with over 100 designers (Alexander McQueen, Christian Louboutin, Oscar de la Renta), an upcoming documentary film, and a handsome coffee-table book aptly titled Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf Goodman, filled with anecdotes from over a century of tastemakers. As for the store’s famed windows, they’ve been stuffed full with archival photographs and memorabilia, offering a mixed-media narration of Bergdorf’s since its launch as a dress atelier in 1901.
