Leave it to stage diva Rufus Wainwright to have his nuptials be the grand finale of wedding season. The crooner tied the tinsel knot today to longtime partner and theater producer Jörn Weisbrodt.
As one might expect, the affair was more star-studded than the film adaptation of Les Miz, and we imagine more entertaining. Guests included Carrie Fisher, Julianne Moore, Yoko Ono, Cindy Sherman, and PS1’s Klaus Biesenbach, who you might recall from his scene-stealing cameos in HBO’s Marina Abramović documentary. The silver-haired museum director also gave a heart-felt speech, while officiating the man-marriage was Justin Bond.
The glamorous affair in scenic Montauk was followed by a reception at the decidedly unglamorous Shagwong Restaurant, a joint described by Wainwright as “filthy and smelly, and once again, sexy.” And apparently the show will be going on the road, as the newlyweds asked guests for donations for their 25-foot customized Airstream.
Big congrats to the happy couple (with extra jazz hands)!
