When it comes to dots, one is never enough. It’s takes two to polka. So leave it to Love to collaborate with dot-artist Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton on a free iPad app, which, aside from dots aplenty, features a fashion film by Angelo Pennetta and styled by ed-in-chief Katie Grand.
But that’s dot all. In celebration of her retrospective at the Whitney, Kusama’s works will also go on view at two downtown sites near the Whitney’s future home in the Meatpacking District. Beginning mid-August, one of her signature not-dot images will fully engulf an otherwise nondescript building at 15th Street and 9th Avenue. Currently being installed, the wrap will feature a detail of the original painting Yellow Trees (1994). Meanwhile, throughout the summer, Kusama’s red-dot boulder-like sculptures will, ahem, dot the lawn at the entrance to Hudson River Park’s Pier 45.
