Deck-Brained
New music for the one-track-minded…
Why should Jake Gyllenhaal have all the fun? Living up to the title of this column, Shia LaBeouf strips down and shows his sensitive side (it’s not bad either) in a new video for Sigur Rós. And as anyone familiar with the Icelandic art band will know straightaway, it’s about as far away from Hollywood as you can get—no shape-shifting CGI or rom-com shenanigans. Rather, director Alma Har’el delivers a very disturbing eight-plus minutes of violence, despair, and isolation—set to a really sad yet beautiful cinematic score. But there are some silly and naive parts, too, like one scene involving magical lollipops and an underwater car ride. In that way it’s like Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic, but mostly it’s like Lars von Trier’s Antichrist.
