Nicolas Ghesquière took an unexpectedly girlie turn for Balenciaga resort, inspired by the discovery of 1930s ballet costumes by Cristobal Balenciaga. The collection favored sugar-sweet hues—baby blues, cotton-candy pinks and canary yellows—while sweet A-line skirts paired with bra-tops recalled recent offerings by Miuccia Prada.

A more masculine take on the season came in the form of pants cut from pinstripe and other boardroom fabrics, cinched high with a wide belt and paired with harnessed T-shirts, draped blouses and jackets. And lest the sweetness veer into saccharine, Ghesquière included a few of his hardcore sculptural jackets.
