Alber Elbaz’s Pursuit of Happiness
If Alber Elbaz’s landmark fall collection for Lanvin, which culminated in an after-party wherein the designer himself burst into song, didn’t put you in a merry mood, then his cheery new one-off collection will, dammit. But should you still not know how to feel after seeing it, don’t worry, it’s right in the title: “Happy” Les 10 Ans.
Celebrating Elbaz’s ten years at the helm, the winter capsule consists of accessories only (because they’re inherently happy, duh), bringing together ten signature Lanvin themes old and new. A bag covered with tulle strips serves as an homage to the house’s heritage, as do Art Deco cuffs and ballet slippers with pompoms. Representing modern Lanvin, meanwhile, the designer’s Happy bag is covered with sequins and rhinestones in a sparkly, unabashed expression of joy.
It’s a little like a birthday party where the happy stuff has found its way into the brownies and punch. Who doesn’t crack a smile at a pastel bow tie or child-like drawings (les dessins d’Alber)? You will, just drink the Kool Aid.
