Fred Perry’s Diamond Jubilee

Queen Elizabeth isn’t the only one celebrating 60 years of unsurpassed reign. Fred Perry turns 60 this year and the label has big plans to fete the feat.

To start, a select group of designers, musicians and sports figures will be sent a reissue of the original 1952 Fred Perry shirt—reproduced from imagery and illustrations discovered in the archives—and asked to customize it with a birthday message. The results will be displayed at blow-out anniversary events before being auctioned for charity.

Furthermore, Grammy-winning film director and musician Don Letts—founder of Big Audio Dynamite, the band he formed with Mick Jones, post-Clash—has been recruited to produce six 15-minute documentaries that give historical context to the long arc of Fred Perry style. The series—which will screen first on UK’s Channel 4 and then on—promises to provide unique insight into 60 years of British music and subculture.
