Keeping Up With the Karlisms

On June 3, Karl Lagerfeld will give live commentary of Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th anniversary celebrations—aka the Diamond Jubilee—for the French TV station France 2. Cobbling together the things he’s said recently about Adele, the Japanese and Newsweek magazine, he could call the Queen fat, observe the Royal Family noshing junk food, or dismiss the event as shitty.

Or he could—as he did when he gave live commentary of William and Kate’s wedding—criticize guests for being “big” or “commoners,” or the groom for going “bald,” or he could merely pronounce everyone’s hat a “nightmare.” And don’t rule out an imaginative recombination of any of the above. Stay tuned because there surely will be Karlisms.
