Carine Roitfeld Finally Reveals the Title of Her New Magazine, and Then Some

Ever since Carine Roitfeld left Vogue Paris, mag hags the world over have been waiting to see where she would land. After a slate of high-profile, guest-starring roles, she’s teaming up with Visionaire’s Stephen Gan and his Fashion Media Group to launch her own biannual, the aptly titled CR Fashion Book, she told WWD.

Though the veteran editrix says she hasn’t started the first issue, September, an early mockup features the initials in Roitfeld’s handwriting—familiar to readers from years of editor’s letters—scrawled across an oversized matte cover. Along with its twice-yearly schedule, the magazine will differ from most newsstand titles by eliminating fluffy front-of-book stories and accepting spreads-only advertising, giving it a more book-like feel.

Despite her enviable Rolodex, don’t expect the magazine to be filled only with familiar faces. Many, such as Mario Testino, are contractually tied to other publications. And besides, she said, “It’s time to find something new, something fresh—for me and for the readers.” After all, she continued, “I find that some people in fashion are so blasé.”
