A Galliano-to-Schiaparelli Rumor to Cure Your Post-Fashion Month Blues

With all the commotion surrounding Raf Simons and Hedi Slimane, the fashion swirl seems to have forgotten about its favorite leper, John Galliano. The designer-cum-pariah has managed to keep a low profile, other than some talk about a consulting gig at Mango.

Until yesterday, that is, when a line in a WWD story ballooned into a rumor that Galliano was in talks with Tod’s to design a capsule collection, or possibly relaunch the Schiaparelli brand. Tod’s CEO Diego Della Valle was quick to dismiss the speculation. But considering the Schiaparelli name is about to garner some major recognition in May with the “Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion” exhibit debuting at the Met, it seems like just the right time to lay the groundwork for a major reveal.

While that’s a bit serendipitous, we can’t help but wonder what Schiaparelli—famed for its collaborations with the likes of Salvador Dali and Jean Cocteau—would look like with Galliano at the helm. After all, the man knows his way around a surreal runway moment. This might be a good time to load up on lobster prints.
