Kraftwerk Can Still Sell Out a Show
There was a bit of a digital traffic jam yesterday when fans of electronic krautrock pioneers Kraftwerk went fahr’n auf der Information Autobahn, trying to scoop up tickets to the band’s eight-night residency at MoMA. The famously stoic foursome is celebrating four decades and eight albums—Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986), The Mix (1991), and Tour de France (2003)—by performing each record in its entirety one night between April 10 and 17.
The lucky few who got through and nabbed tickets to Kraftwerk-Retrospective 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 will also see die Roboter themselves perform new interpretations of their catalog, along with 3D projections. And now that we live in the digital age that the avant-garde rockers predicted, the band will leave its Minimoogs at home and play directly from laptops.
